TMJ Treatment Progress

A month ago a colleague was in the process of dismissing a client because their particular condition wasn’t something that he was comfortable treating.

The client wanted an intra oral aspect to her treatment to be added due to a clicking they had in the left side of their jaw. They’d been one year out of a four year stint with braces and the clicking which was easily audible along with general jaw tension were becoming a source of stress.

As an RMT we are trained in the anatomy, assessment and treatment of TMJ dysfunction which can present itself in a jaw click as well as jaw tension. The treatment involves treating the outside as well as the inside of the mouth as the muscles of mastication(chewing) can be accessed there. Gloves are worn during the treatment and while initially it can be somewhat uncomfortable, my client tells me that after four treatments they’re encouraged by the decreased tension in the jaw.

While she’s seeing me for treatment she’s seeing a specialist who’s getting them set up with a mouth guard for sleeping as grinding can be an issue for people suffering with TMJ dysfunction.

I’m treating two clients currently with TMJ dysfunction, both of whom have a history with braces and invisalign.

The jaw, neck and shoulder tension that comes along with TMJ can benefit from this treatment as well. BOOK NOW for a treatment or call for a consult.
